Abstract

The article traces the change in the vector of international and security policy of Finland and Sweden in view of their accession to NATO. The author analyses the transformation of the role of these countries in the international community and the impact of their strategic communications on solving global problems and confronting global security challenges both now and in the future. The main focus is on the intergovernmental consensus policy of Finland and Sweden, the relationship between domestic public debates on security and defence, public opinion and strategic thinking in the Nordic countries. It is predicted that the strengthening of the Northern bloc in NATO can enhance the military potential of not only Northern but also the whole of Europe, thus not only reducing the vulnerability of NATO’s frontline countries but also possibly changing the course of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
