The article is devoted to the analysis of new lexical innovations that appeared in the English language during the Russian-Ukrainian war and verbalize the war- time events in Ukraine and the world. Neologisms that appeared during 2022 became the object of the study of this article.
A brief overview of linguistic research on the language of war has been given. Emphasis has been placed on the powerful influence of historical events on the language. Changes in the consciousness of society, emotional and psychological state of people during the war, and, accordingly, changes in the lexical composi- tion of the language in connection with the need for a new nomination have been analyzed. The connection between language and war has been studied.
Examples of the most popular neologisms in the English language, which have appeared during 2022 against the background of the war launched by Russia against Ukraine, have been considered, their interpretation and methods of for- mation have been presented, their structure, semantics and origin have been ana- lyzed. The main functions of the selected lexical innovations have been deter- mined and the main reasons for their appearance in the English language have been established.
The article has established that the most productive source of formation of new words is the need for a new nomination of enemy, military operations and geo- political activity during the war. The high level of emotional component in the process of formation of English-language military slang and its pronounced negative connotation have been noted. It has been determined that English neolo- gisms, which appeared against the background of a full-scale war, are mostly borrowings from Ukrainian language. It has been emphasized that, in addition to Ukrainian borrowings, a considerable number of English neologisms of military themes have been formed.
Furthermore, it has been established that Ukrainian neologisms that have ap- peared during the war are gaining more and more popularity in the English- speaking world, which indicates the transformation of the consciousness and thinking of its speakers.
The work substantiates the need and prospects for further study of neologisms associated with global world disasters and drastic changes in human life.
